I'm not convinced by that article, really. I'm sure there are girls who game to get attention rather than for the love of it, but I think they're few and far between. But I do think it's true that some girls make a bigger deal about being "girl gamers" than perhaps they should. (I remember seeing an XKCD cartoon about this, but I can't find it again. Darn.) I've probably done it myself occasionally. I never used to think that being a female gamer was anything out of the ordinary, but after a few "you do? really?" kind of responses, I started to get self-conscious about it. But really, I think the best thing to do is just for everyone to act as if there is nothing special about women gaming... because as we've seen, a lot of them do.
